About Course

Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology

Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology provides learners with a clear and accessible introduction to the structure and functions of the human body. The course develops foundational knowledge of anatomy and physiology before exploring the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems. It is designed to help learners understand how major body systems are organised, how they function, and how they work together to support everyday movement, health, and life.

Module 1: Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology

This module introduces the fundamental concepts of anatomy and physiology. Learners explore anatomical terminology, body organisation, levels of structural organisation, body regions and cavities, tissues, organs, and the relationship between structure and function. The module also introduces the concept of maintaining internal balance within the body.

Module 2: Skeletal System

This module examines the structure and functions of the skeletal system. Learners explore major bones, joints, cartilage, connective tissues, the organisation of the skeleton, and the roles of the skeletal system in support, movement, protection, mineral storage, and blood cell production. The module also introduces different types of joints and their contribution to movement.

Module 3: Muscular System

This module introduces the anatomy and physiology of the muscular system. Learners explore major muscle groups, muscle structure, types of muscle tissue, muscle contraction, movement, posture, and the relationship between muscles, bones, and joints. The module also considers how muscles contribute to physical activity and everyday bodily functions.

Module 4: Cardiovascular System

This module explores the structure and function of the cardiovascular system. Learners examine the heart, blood vessels, blood circulation, and the basic components of blood. The module explains how the cardiovascular system transports oxygen and nutrients, removes waste products, supports temperature regulation, and contributes to maintaining the body’s internal balance.

Module 5: Respiratory System

This module introduces the structure and function of the respiratory system. Learners explore the major respiratory organs, airways, breathing mechanics, and the process of gas exchange. The module also examines how oxygen enters the body, how carbon dioxide is removed, and how the respiratory system works alongside the cardiovascular system to support normal body function.
